Blogger Vs WordPress.

I've been toying with the idea of changing over to WordPress from Blogger, but i can't decide if it would be worth it.

If i did change it would probably be to WordPress.com instead of .org, even though .org offers more flexibility in the way of design and plugins i can't really justify paying to go self hosted. If it was for a business and making money it would be different  but i only blog for fun.

Another thing that concerns me is how easy it is to swap content to another platform, and keep hold of my followers.

If anyone can give me any help it would be really appreciated especially if they've changed from Blogger to WordPress. With any pros and cons.

Many thanks Ian.

  1. I am on both. I have Cat Chat on blogger and Dakota's blog on Free Word Press.....I MUCH prefer Blogger. See all of your badges and things on the side of your blog? If you go to Free Wordpress the vast majority of those you cannot post.
I was even toying with at some point moving Dakota over to Blogger but I am not sure about that yet.

  2. Blogger seems to be more friendly if you use lots of pix where if you are more word oriented WP is good. I don't like WP because photo wise it is crap but if you don't need to use pix it is probably OK. The downside is neither is friendly to the other. Different stokes for different folks. Have a super Saturday.

  4. I asked this question in one of my blogging groups recently and it seemed like a lot of people think that Blogger was the better choice. I don't really have any complaints with Blogger other than the commenting system so I decided that maybe Blogger isn't so bad after all :) I have no idea how to move content from one to the other... but if you want your own domain it's super easy and cheap to purchase through Blogger.

  6. I've only ever used WP and it's fine for what I need it for. I guess both have their good and bad points.

  7. I have used blogger, wordpress.com, and currently have both of my blogs self-hosted on Bluehost. The transition from blogger to wordpress.com isn't that bad. If you need help, I can help you. However, wordpress.com will not allow any javascript, however, it does allow html unless there is a "script" in the coding. There are perks to each one but I wanted more control over what I was able to do as well as making sure my content stayed mine. I've heard of people on blogger and wordpress.com totally losing their blog out of the blue.

If blogger works for you, I say keep it here. If you are looking for more tips on customizing, I highly suggest a friend of mine, Mayura at mayura4ever.com. He was my "go to" person for blogger help. He's very talented and his blog contents a wealth of free tutorials to help.

Good luck in whatever you decide. I'm hear to help if needed.

  10. I'm on self-hosted wordpress and I love it. I use pictures in my posts and have had no problems. According to my host (bluehost) Wordpress is the easiest tool to work with in terms of building a website. I find it to be super easy and if I ever need help with figuring something out, I usually find lots of Wordpress tutorials by googling.

I also have a blog on blogger and haven't figured out a whole bunch of stuff there.

I did switch from the free WP to self-hosted and I lost all my subscribers, but I didn't lose any of my data.

As others have said, I think it's a personal preference.

  11. I'm on wordpress, self hosted and I like it, I moved from wordpress.com due to you can not place ads on your site. I did have an old blog on blogger and I did like how easy it was to use. However I am most happy with my set up now.
My understanding is that wordpress makes it very easy to move your blog intact.
    Hard choice, good luck!

  12. Its such as you read my mind! You appear to grasp a lot about
this, like you wrote the guide in it or something. I think that you just could
do with some % to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is fantastic blog.

A great read. I will certainly be back.
