THE owner of a stolen champion dog has re-mortgaged her house to raise a £10,000 reward for the pet’s return.
Dawn Maw’s beloved Angel was dognapped from a car park last month.

The four-year-old German shorthaired pointer was taken by the driver of a white Transit van while she was getting her three other dogs out of her car.

Dawn, 42, said: “Initially I was offering £3,000 which was raised by the sheer generosity of my Facebook friends. I had a few calls from people claiming to know where Angel was but nothing came from them.

“I decided to increase the fee because I am desperate to get my dog back and I thought the best and quickest way to do this was to re-mortgage the house to make the reward £10,000.”

Dawn, who works as an investigator for the Department for Work and Pensions, added: “My husband, Dominic, wasn’t happy about it at first. He’s accepting it now because getting Angel back is the only way life is going to return to normal in our house.”

The desperate mother had to extend the mortgage on her three-bedroom detached house from 15 to 20 years to raise the cash. She has also forked out £500 for the services of a pet detective agency and paid a further £3,000 to distribute 15,000 posters and 35,000 business cards across the UK.

Dawn, of Cawthorne, South Yorks, paid £700 for Angel when she was a puppy. There are only two working champions of her breed in the country.

She has been microchipped and spayed and, unusually, still has an undocked full-length tail. Dawn said: “I have no idea why she was taken because she can’t breed. I expect someone knew she was a champion and thought ‘I want that dog’.

“The £10,000 reward will be for her safe return or for information that leads directly to her. It will be paid in cash and I have no issues with that, I am simply determined to find her. I just want Angel back.”

Pet insurer Direct Line said Dawn’s reward is one the biggest ever offered and 10 times more than the £1,000 available under their standard policy.

And Colin Butcher, of The Pet Detectives agency in Surrey said: “The most recent client to offer a big sum was last July and that was £5,000 – the greatest award we had ever seen before.”

South Yorkshire police are investigating the dog-napping which happened on December 6.

Gay dog pts ( The mind boggles. )

 I've heard everything now.

Tennessee dog dies Thursday because he is 'gay'

Just when you think that you have heard it all, along comes an excuse that completely boggles the mind.

Tomorrow, a dog, name unknown, will be put to death at an overcrowded animal control in Jackson, Tenn., after his owner surrendered him there because he believes that his dog is "gay."

According to the prior owner, the dog was seen "hunched over," another male dog, therefore, in this owner's mind, the dog must be gay.

The former owner apparently does not know that "hunched over, aka humping behavior" is typically a sign of dominance in dogs, rather than something to signify a dog's sexual orientation.

But, on the other hand, even if it did indicate sexual orientation, does it warrant turning one's dog over to an extremely crowded, sadly "high kill," animal control facility?

Should it matter?

No.

Shared about this dog:
Don't let this gorgeous dog die bc his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He's in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn!
And the following is stated about this dog's dire situation:
they (shelter) open at 9 a.m. and he will die by 1 p.m. if not adopted as he was an owner surrender. Adoption fee is 38.00 and that only includes a voucher for a rabies shot. He looks to be a pit/american bulldog mix.

Jackson Rabies Control, 146 Miller Ave., in Jackson TN.

Update the dog got saved.

Attention, the 'gay' dog has left the building

It is official, the "gay" pit bull mix who was slated for destruction at a Jackson, Tenn., animal control facility, is safe.

Following a flurry of internet networking, the supposed "gay" dog, who was actually just displaying normal dog behavior, was sprung from the Jackson Rabies Control building early Thursday morning.

According to ABC News, the misunderstood dog is now owned by a veterinary tech named Stephanie Fryns.

Fryns has named the dog, "Elton."

She told ABC that Elton enjoyed the car ride and that he has been "pretty friendly so far."

When word spread that Elton was deemed "gay," by his prior owner for "hunching over" another male dog, people from across the nation were simultaneously shocked and outraged at the ignorance of the owner who wound up surrendering Elton for behaving in a perfectly normal manner.

Not to mention, even if Elton was "gay," who cares?

Bottom line, Elvis has left the building.

Anyone who was beside themselves with worry over Elton may want to direct that concern towards the dogs who are still in danger at the Jackson Rabies facility.

Without a bizarre story of their own, they might not make it out alive.

Information for those dogs still at risk:

Animal cruelty.

How did this pathetic excuse for a human being escape a prison sentence. I'm lucky living in a loving home with decent people who love and care for me and would provide the best medical treatment available.

Unfortunately other animals aren't so lucky. Would the courts be so lenient if it was a child involved, i would of thought if she was an alcoholic prison would of done her good by helping her dry out and get her life sorted. It's about time the courts realised animals are family to.

Mother of two spared jail after letting dog die slow and painful death over six weeks by leaving it in locked toilet

  • Laura Shaw, 23, abandoned pet Lulu when the animal fell ill
  • Dog was found dead and covered in flies with 'overpowering foul stench'
  • Unemployed alcoholic fined and banned from keeping animals
An unemployed alcoholic mother who locked her dog in a toilet and left it to die has walked free from court.

Laura Shaw, 23, abandoned her pet Lulu for six weeks, and has now been banned from keeping animals for the next 10 years.
Horrific images shown in court revealed how the animal was found covered in swarms of flies, surrounded by the empty food bowls it tried to eat.

Heartless: Laura Shaw has been convicted of animal cruelty after leaving her pet dog to die

The mother of two was prosecuted by the RSPCA, but escaped jail after a hearing at Grimsby Magistrates' Court.

The court heard how the dog was found dead last August in a downstairs toilet at Shaw's former home in Grimsby, surrounded by faeces and urine.

Prosecutor Nigel Burn said there was an 'overpowering foul stench' and the house was swarming with large flies.

Empty plates and a bowl were found and it looked as though they had been bitten by the black cross-bred dog in a desperate attempt to satisfy its hunger.

Shaw, now of no fixed address, admitted two offences of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog by failing to provide veterinary care and leaving it unattended without adequate food and water.

She claimed that she was scared to seek help after the dog became ill, but when she was asked about the animal's death she admitted: 'It must have been traumatic and it must have been lonely and scared.'

Lauren Fisher, mitigating, said the dog stopped eating and drinking and that she tried giving it milk and different dog food brands, without succes.

'Things spiralled out of control,' she said. 'She did not get the help that was necessary for the dog and neglected her duty as an owner to take the dog to the vet's.'

Ms Fisher added that Shaw's former home had been burgled after her windows were smashed and that a large amount of her property had been stolen, causing her 'extreme unhappiness'.

She left the house 'feeling scared and unable to cope' and abandoned the dog, who was aged about 18 months to two years.

Probation officer Graham Marshall said Shaw had been a mental health support worker but lost her job and later 'drank to oblivion every day whenever she could'.

The court heard that the defendant also had more than £10,000 of debts.

Judge Sam Goozee told Shaw: 'You have committed a cruel and despicable offence. The pictures I have seen show the horror and pain that Lulu must have gone through in what was a very slow death.

'The conditions in which she was found are disgusting and she clearly had been dead for a while.

'Looking after an animal brings responsibility and you simply ignored those responsibilities.

'Can you imagine what it would be like if a child went through what Lulu did? As an adult, you would never place a child in that position and you should not place an animal in that position.'

Shaw was handed 200 hours of unpaid work, banned from keeping animals for ten years and ordered to pay £150 costs.

Speaking after the verdict, an RSPCA spokesman said: 'This was a shocking incident. The poor animal would have suffered terribly, and it is terrible to leave a living creature to die like this.

'We hope this sends a clear to message to people that neglect or abuse of animals is not acceptable.'

I've got to go now and try and calm my Dad down, i won't repeat what punishment he would of gave her. And i thought we were a nation of animal lovers.

The annoying thing is if a dog killed a human it would be euthanized but the other way round is acceptable.
